ANZAC medals were given to people who died in war for example the 1914 star was awarded to men and womens who served in the war between the 5th of August 1914 and December 1915 in any theatre of war.

This is Francis late great grandfather medal. His grandfather was in war for 6 years and he was in world war 2.

The one on the left is a air force medal it is a black and white medal with wings at the top on both sides, it is made out of pure silver. The one on the right is Francis favourite one and it is called the Pacific star and out is made out of pure bronze. It is red on the end, black in front of the red and in front of that is green and the last colour is yellow and that is going through the middle. The one in the middle is red on the out side blue in frout of the red then white then red again. The one in the middle means thayt they bean serving in the war.

THEY SHALL GROW OLD AS WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM, NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

  2. Hi Ina, you have described the medals really well and it is interesting to know why he got them. I love it that you have inserted the well known verse at the end, it always brings a little tear to my eyes.
