Once there was a peaceful island with a volcano on it. The volcano was enormous and dark. It had a sinister feeling about it. Smaller mountains led down to the sand on the beach, where the water shimmered. Waves crashed down on the beach and the water went choppy. The small island lay in the middle of the sea, lonely except for a bigger island some miles away with a huge population of people.
One day the volcano erupted and the lava flew through the air onto the people’s island. They were in great havoc and panic.
Suddenly a goddess appeared as the people prayed. They did not recognise her. “My name is Rasheen”, she said. “I look after the people of Durga but I have come to help you as I am good with fire and heat and have taken pity on you people. I will find the cause of this”.
As she spoke the people examined her. She had six arms in which she held two bow and arrows, one axe and three swords. She was mounted on an orange tiger with black stripes and white highlights. It opened its jaws wide affectionately. “I shall see you soon”. As she spoke she quenched some fires. Then she clicked her fingers and she and her tiger disappeared.
Suddenly she appeared on the soft white sand below the mountain. “How will we get up there?” she thought. “We shall climb”, whispered the tiger in her brain. She climbed upon him and the Tiger named Zigor started to climb the smaller mountains towards the volcano. It took them a full two hours to make it.
When they made it a flaming bird appeared over the rim of the volcano, over on the other side. It’s beady eyes filled with hatred, watched as he used his flaming wings to create a buffet of wind that pushed the lava towards the village. It carked which sounded like laughter, then dived into the pool of lava. It had a sharp beak with a crest of feathers on its head. It’s wings were huge and it had two feet. It had a big cloak of feathers on his backside. It’s whole body was red including its eyes and the end feathers. Around its whole body was yellow.
It saw them and its eyes narrowed. Rasheen and Ziger watched as it sent boiling hot lava towards them. “How will we defeat it?” said Rasheen. “There’s no time for that!” said Ziger. “He’s coming!” As soon as Rasheen heard those words she pulled out her bow and arrows, then started shooting them at it. The bird dodged all of them but caught one in his beak and tossed it back at Rasheen and Ziger. But they ducked and it missed them by an inch. The bird came closer and Ziger started to try to claw and bite him. Rasheen fought with all her weapons, deflecting arrows with her sword. “Woah you nearly flipped me off you Ziger”, said Rasheen as Ziger jumped at the bird.
“We need an idea”, roared ziger as Rasheen slashed at the bird with a sword. “What about..”, said Rasheen, unleashing an arrow with her bow. “We could force him off the mountain into the water”, suggested Rasheen. “We are not a fire bird”, replied Ziger. “It’s on the other side”. “Are you forgetting that I am a god from India and you, my pet, are a special tiger. You do have powers you know”. “Yes I know”, replied Ziger. “Lets try to go around the rim first.”
Ziger leapt away from the bird and ran across the side leaping over lava. The bird carked loudly and sped after them. “You can’t defeat ME!” The bird hissed in a hissy voice, “I AM MALASTAIR!” “Rasheen”, whispered Ziger, “we need to cut across the lava. It’s shorter!” Rasheen shot arrow after arrow at Malastair. “All right just go on it. I’ll do the rest.” “I trust you”, warned Ziger as he leapt onto the lava. Rasheen dropped her weapons which disappeared and lifted her six arms in the air.
Ziger crossed safely and turned around to face Malastair. They battled till Ziger leapt behind Malastair and chased him to the edge. Ziger opened his jaws and used one of his powers. “RAWR” Malastair fell over the edge and Ziger leapt over and grabbed Malastair so he couldn’t fly away. They landed in the water but didn’t die, but Malastair did.
He dissolved and got transferred to the never ending hole Tataroo. “And that’s that”, said Rasheen dusting her hands. They went to the people who thanked them and they returned back to their home. That’s how Rangitoto erupted and stopped. As that place was New Zealand.

Hi girls, I thought your myth kept me excited and reading right till the end. I liked how it ended explaining the eruption of Rangitoto in NZ. You used great adjectives and description throughout, a wonderful piece of writing.
