Here are some recounts of Aloha Day. Enjoy and feel free to comment on our work.
A Hundred Years Aloha
On the 6th of March 2010, it was Aloha at Grey Lynn School. Aloha is a celebration to celebrate all the cultures at Grey Lynn Primary. My Aunty and Uncle and cousins were there and my grandparents were also there, but only for a little while.
First our principal made his speech and then the children performed. First Puriri team sang their song called Puriri Heroes, and then Totara team sang Vaiele pepe. After that the whole school performed a song by the Nesian Mystic.
Next we got taken down to the lower quad for our parents to pick us up. When my Dad got down there we went back to the tree that we sat under and I grabbed my wallet and went and spent money. I bought 12 books, a milkshake and a shaved ice. I also did two squares on the canvas. Then I sang and danced on the stage. After that we went and packed up to go home.
I had a great day. It was really hot but not too hot to have fun.

The Happy Moment
On Saturday 6th of March it was the day of Aloha. Its at Grey Lynn School. There were parents, teachers and of course the children of Grey Lynn School.
I came late so I quickly came and sat down. The performances were about to start. I came to Aloha because, well, umm...it’s my last Aloha and because I really wanted to celebrate 100 years.
First the whole school sang. It was just about the Puriri team to sing. After Puriri team sang it was my team. The Totara team had to sing. It was embarassing. The the whole school did a jump jam performance. Now that was fun. After my Dad collected me an Habeebah from the lower quad.
First we got a yummy chocolate milkshake. Mmmm, it was really nice. After I got a glow - in - the - dark stick. Last but not least I got the sweetest candy floss I’ve ever had.
When I got home my cousins came. As Rusty said we didn’t really have such a good time. After that I had dinner, then ice cream and went to bed. It was one of my favourite days.

On Saturday the 6th of March it was Aloha at Grey Lynn for the 100 year old birthday of Grey Lynn School. Lots of children and parents came to see our performance. We went down to the lower quad but the parents went to the field. After a while we went on to the field to do our performance. First the Puriri team sang their song. Then we sang Vaile pepe. Then we did a performance with the Puriri team. Probably every one saw their Mum or Dad or both. After that was over I got a drink. It was lemon, lime and bitter. Then me and my Mum and Dad watched two shows. They were great shows. Later on we looked at some toys. I didn’t really want any. We also looked at some books. Thats when I saw the candy floss. We got some, there were three colours. They were pink, green and yellow. My Mum wanted me to make a badge for my Dad. It said C T O by Grey Lynn School. But I think he saw it. Me and my Dad were so hot we got a milk shake. After that I played on the senior playground. Not many people were on it. Then my Dad got his badge. When he came back he said “‘we did it”, and he was right! Next I saw Cameron. I was glad to see he came because he was having a sleep over. We played some more on the senior playground. We played run away from Jack. It was not long before we went home. The next day it was Sunday. I was woken up by Cameron. Then we played plant vs zombies on the computer. We really liked that game. Next we had breakfast. Unfortunately we had no milk. So I had plain honey puffs. After that we played on the computer. Soon after we dropped Cameron off. It was my first time seeing his tree hut. We stayed for a little while. Then we left. It was a fun week because of the sleep over and the food but it was also a busy week.

On Saturday afternoon Grey Lynn School had their 100th birthday Aloha. When nearly all the kids of Grey Lynn School were down in the lower quad we all went up to the field ready to perform.
When we got up to the field it was scorching hot. I bet everyone felt like melting ice cubes. Anyway back to the point when everyone had got over the heat it was time to perform. We got up and sang our song. Then it was time for the grand finale and oh boy it was great! There was marching and clapping and everything. After we went back down to the lower quad where our parents picked us up.They then took us back up to the field where there was heaps of shops. I bought sausage roll and went to show my Dad. He was so jealous. My Dad loves a sausage in a roll once in a while. Then I went to find Minna. I found Minna. Then we both went to buy a raffle ticket, well actually three. Then we watched Nesian Mystic. They were awesome. Then I went home. I had a great time.

On Saturday Grey Lynn School performed because we had aloha at Grey Lynn School. We sang the vaile pepe and did a sasa dance. Then we were free to go. I bought two bags of candy floss and I bought two drinks of frozen ice tea. Then the Nesian Mystics were on and I watched them. Jamie’s Dad performed. Lots of people performed like Che Fu’s Dad. I played with Robbie and Otto and Max from room 13 and Hugo and Jamie. It was a busy, fun night because we got to play all night with our friends.

Aloha Day
Whew! It is really hot. It is Aloha Day and I am just about to perform my item. Everyone is watching us. Oh its time to perform. Music pours out of the speakers. Finally the item is over. Me and my Dad are going to make a badge. Then I find my friends and my sister and we had a water pistol fight. Wow! It was really sunny before, but now there is a storm. Finally it stops. A band called Nesian Mystic is about to play. Finally it is time to go to my friend Harry’s for a sleepover.

ReplyDeleteMinna, I got a buzz out of seeing your writing on the blog and I enjoyed your account of Aloha Day. I especially liked the way you started off. You managed to tell us about family, culture and the weather as well the things you got up to on the day. I thought it was interesting that Jasper was the only one to mention the rain. It's great that those showers never ruined things! As I am writing, it is absolutely pouring with rain outside. We're lucky it wasn't like that on the day!!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in the map showing the locations where people have visited your blog. You guys have truly gone global, with visits from five continents!
