Athletics Day

On Friday 13th Grey Lynn School had our athletics day. Read Milla's recount of our fun day.

Athletics Day

On Friday the 13th the whole school went to Grey Lynn Park for Athletics Day. Firstly we did the tabloids. Secondly we raced. For the tabloids we got in our classes. First Room 9 did jumping over legs. We sat on the grass, then we put our legs out on the grass. Then we jumped over the legs. It sounded like elephants stomping on the ground.Next activity with Mrs Hamilton we jumped in the hoop. We skipped, then we jumped in a sack and then we threw the bean bags in the basket. When they fell in it sounded like a rattle snake rattling its tail.We went to the next activity which was with Mrs Fale. We got in groups in a circle in lines. At the end they got given a metal pole. When the teacher said go the people all ran like a herd of lions. Then we went to the next activity with Uala. We practised throwing balls, soft balls. We had to throw into the tray and hoop. If you threw it in the hoop you got 2 points. If you threw on the tray you got 5 points. Some of us did a little bit of bowling. We had to do it twice because the juniors had more activities. After we did it two times we did our running races. The semis were first. Then the juniors, then the middle school. I came fourth. I felt proud of myself. After all of the races the teachers and parents did the relay. It was Gail’s first time doing it. The kids and parents were cheering like lions roaring. I was cheering for Gail. She was power walking. It was an awesome athletics. I hope we do it next year.

  1. Hi Milla,
What an amazing recount! I am impressed by how you have all the right events in the right order and by all the descriptive words you used. If I hadn't been there, I still would be able to imagine what had happened because of the imagery in your writing. Well done!
    From Mrs Hamilton.
